Quick Introduction
Hi, I’m Alice! I just finished Term 4 in Mechanical Engineering at MUN and I am currently doing my second work term here at Vigilant. The role I am undertaking this term is Junior Project Manager. In this role, I will be exposed to all the inner workings of project delivery and estimating, which is something I am very excited to dive into!
What things do you enjoy doing outside of work?
Outside of work I love volleyball and play in multiple women’s leagues every week! I also love to read and write. Whenever I get the chance I also enjoy going to the movie theater, despite not really watching movies much at home. I also recently started trying to teach myself piano! I would say my favorite hobby is developing hobbies.
What you are most looking forward to this work term?
On this work term I am most looking forward to getting the opportunity to be on site and gain insight into what goes into a construction project. There’s so much more work and problem-solving that goes into a project than what you realize when you just pass by it on the street. Getting a chance to be involved in that process is truly exciting.
What made you choose Vigilant?
As a student, I am lucky to have the opportunity to gain experience through work terms. Even though my discipline is mechanical, I believe each type of engineering is important to understand and have experience in. Vigilant seemed like a workplace where I would be able to further my understanding of the civil side of engineering in a stimulating and supportive environment, which is exactly what I was looking for.
What would you like to pursue in your professional career?
Right now, I have an eye on working in the renewable energy field. Soon our future is going to be relying on it! But currently, I wish to broaden my skills by working in numerous fields to get a feeling of all engineering can offer. So far I can confidently say I am enjoying the other disciplines of engineering and all the intricacies that come with them.
