Welcome Co-op Student Anna!
We would like to welcome our Summer engineering work-term student Anna Goldsworthy to Vigilant!
Vigilant is committed to delivering the highest quality work terms and each of our students is a valued member of our team and plays a critical role in the overall success of Vigilant. We are excited to see all the things Anna will accomplish this term and beyond. She has been a pleasure to have at the office.
Tell us a little bit about yourself!
Hi, I’m Anna! I just finished my first year of Engineering at Memorial University. I’m so excited to be here at Vigilant for my very first work term. In the Fall, I will be studying mechatronics and fueling my love for digital and physical problem solving. Before my days spent studying in the library, I could be found in the theater singing and acting; Nowadays, I volunteer with MUN’s chapter of robogals, an organization that encourages girls to pursue STEM.
What is your job title and responsibilities at Vigilant?
As a Junior Project Manager at Vigilant, I support the project delivery team by helping out with cost estimating, cost monitoring, procuring other professional services, and anything else I can take on! I’m so grateful for the opportunities I’ve been given to contribute to the team.
What are your hobbies?
I sang in Shallaway Youth Choir for 11 years and got to travel to Cuba, Portugal, and Ireland to compete in international choral competitions. I enjoy a broad range of musical stylings from classical German lieder to smooth jazz tunes. Earlier this year my friend convinced me to partner with her in an engineering debate competition and, for someone who doesn’t like arguing, I really enjoyed it! I also enjoy a good video game every now and then (mostly things like Animal Crossing, The Sims, and Fallout).
What made you pick Vigilant for your work term?
I chose Vigilant because I wanted to work for a company that offers quality mentorship in an environment that would help me grow as an engineer. Based on their (very well written) job ad, I knew this was the place! The Vigilant team has certainly lived up to my expectations in every way.
What have you learned so far?
In my first week I was amazed by the reality of how much work goes into developing our infrastructure. The neighborhood I live in, the road I drive to work on, and even our office is the product of countless hours of planning and coordination. Though I’ve learned many things so far, the most significant thing has been an appreciation for the importance of the work that engineers do. I will never look at a building the same!
What are your career goals?
As of right now I’m not sure exactly where I’d like to end up, but I know I’d like to be helping people become their best selves. Whether that’s through designing assistive technology or providing a nurturing environment for young engineers, we’ll have to wait and see!
